Ladysmith motto is:  Heritage by the Sea.   Formerly a coal mining town, Ladysmith’s current economy is mainly derived from logging, tourism and agriculture.  Built on a hillside with a sheltered harbour, gives Ladysmith its unique characteristics.

Young and old enjoy summers at Transfer Beach. With a water park for the splashing youngsters, a playground for those with energy to burn, a beautiful safe ocean for swimming alongside a  sandy beach for those sandcastles, kayak and paddle board rentals, green grass for just watching, a dog park so Fido feels at home,  an outdoor concert theater for hot summer nights, and special fireworks evenings, Ladysmith’s Transfer Beach is the place to be.

In the winter Ladysmith’s downtown core transforms into a winter wonderland that attracts  tens of thousands of visitors to view the spectacular light show. Lights, lights and more lights blink and twinkle throughout all of Ladysmith’s streets.  It’s a sight to behold. On light up night there are upwards of 40,000 people to watch as the switch is turned on signifying the start of the Christmas season.

Located 23 Km from Nanaimo, Ladysmith offers retirement housing possibilities for all levels of income. First time home buyers will find an affordable home with community infrastructure such as ball fields, soccer fields, schools at all levels and recreation center. For those who have a desire to be close to the ocean’s playground, yet only a short drive to all amenities Ladysmith is a quaint town with warm people, ready to welcome you.

From small character homes, to ocean front mansions, Ladysmith has a home for everyone’s budget.
