Crofton: Population 1,100
Originally established as a copper mine, Crofton is 79km north of Victoria located and is a seaside town. While copper is no longer mined, the town is home to Catalyst Paper that produces newsprint, directory paper and kraft pulp, which is used to manufacture printing, writing and tissue papers.
Crofton continues to attract a tourists spending time at the seaside or heading on their way to Saltspring Island. Transportation to Saltspring Island is provided by BC Ferries. Additional transportation includes a bus service linking Croftonians (as they like to be called) to the nearby towns Chemainus and Duncan.
Next to the ferry terminal Crofton market sells local produce, and other wares on Saturday morning. The Crofton market is available from the first weekend in May to the first weekend in October.
