The Cowichan Valley encompasses the city, towns and villages of Ladysmith, Duncan, Cobble Hill, Mill Bay, Shawnigan Lake, and other communities. It covers 1,340.98 sq miles of pristine west coast ocean, lake, forest and agricultural land. Located on east side of Vancouver Island, approximately 40 minutes drive north of Victoria or 20 minutes south of Nanaimo gives you an idea of the size.
Each town inside of the Cowichan Valley has its own flavour. The former coal town of Ladysmith has transformed into a lovely town offering quaint shops where old town personal service still exists. Small cafes, restaurants, a water park for the kids and a salt water beach have ladysmith a top destination for home buyers who want west coast living at an affordable cost.
Duncan has a downtown core that offers big box stores such as Staples, Wal-mart, Best Buy. Close by are great restaurants serving up imaginative west coast food with exemplary service. Numerous micro breweries have been spouting up offering a varied assortment of local wines, and beers.

Shawnigan lake offer recreation is boating, fishing, camping, bike trails and family fun at the beach. With elementary, and secondary schools along with the Shawnigan Lake Private school, it’s no wonder Shawnigan Lake is a great choice for families.
Slightly east of Shawnigan Lake is Mill Bay. More upscale, with beautiful ocean view homes, Mill Bay is close to the highway allowing for a short ride to Victoria for employment or shopping. Mill Bay does have its own shopping center with a grocery store, restaurants, drug store, credit union and banks. Brentwood College and a secondary school, Mill Bay becomes a choice for those who desire tidal ocean views, upscale homes, and a quiet quaint community with all the amenities.
